Aboriginal Presentation Monday

December 2, 2017 • mrslegassie

We have another Aboriginal Presenter coming in on Monday afternoon to share her knowledge of “Plants in Our Environment”

As part of the presentation, students will be using food colouring to tie-die a piece of fabric. It is suggested that students do not wear their best clothes on Monday as the food colouring may stain if spilled.

We need 2-3 parent helpers to come help with this activity around 1:30pm on Monday. Please send me an email at hlegassie@sd35.bc.ca if you are able to join us.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

See you Monday.

Field Trip Tomorrow- November 23rd

November 23, 2017 •

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our class field trip to Campbell Valley Park. Please make sure you arrive at the school on time tomorrow. We are boarding the bus at 9am. It is supposed to rain so please make sure that your child is dressed warm and ready for the weather. Layers are a good idea incase we do get in a break in the weather. The students will be running around but the parent helpers won’t be as much. Please wear rain boots, waterproof jackets and gloves or mittens. Please don’t send Umbrellas, a hat would be a better option or the hood on a jacket.

*Please send a snack that your child can have in their pocket, there will be a break for a snack during the field trip. We will be back in time for a regular lunch.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email Mrs. Smith. Have a good night and looking forward to a fun day tomorrow!

Halloween Tomorrow

October 30, 2017 • mrslegassie

Check out the awesome haunted houses students created today! There are many more in various stages of completion. Feel free to pop in and check them out.

Costumes

Students may wear costumes to school tomorrow but please use good judgement in not sending items that could hurt someone or scare younger children.

Party

Just a reminder that students with even numbered Student Numbers are invited to bring snacks tomorrow. See previous post for more info.

Pre-Conference Survey

All students received this form today. Please take a moment to fill it out and return it tomorrow. This will assist us in preparing for our parent/teacher interviews on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thanks and have a Happy Halloween Eve…

Halloween Festivities

October 27, 2017 • mrslegassie

Halloween is coming up in a few short days!

We will be celebrating in at school with a costume assembly in the morning a class party after lunch.

For Halloween students with EVEN student numbers are asked to please bring a snack to share with the class if possible. One digit numbers please bring a sweet treat. Two digit numbers please bring a savoury/ salty/ healthy snack. Hopefully that will give us some variety. (Student numbers are written on agendas).

Note: We will have 4 main class parties this year: Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day, and End of the Year. Generally they will include eating special treats and fun activities such as holiday games, crafts, or a movie.

Early Dismissal Today

October 23, 2017 • mrslegassie

Just a quick reminder that students will be dismissed at 1:30pm today.

Stormy Weather

October 19, 2017 •

There is a lot of rain forecast for tomorrow, and boy did we sure have a lot of it today! As some of you may have noticed your kids came home wet today. Recess and Lunch are outside days as much as possible, even if it is raining. Please make sure your child comes prepared for the rain in rain gear, and/or you send a spare pair of clothes with them (socks especially, no one likes a soggy sock). There were a few sopping wet kids after lunch today. Have a good night and I will see everyone in the morning!

A Few Reminders & A Request

October 11, 2017 • mrslegassie

Library Book Exchange Tomorrow

Due to Thanksgiving Monday, we will be exchanging library books tomorrow morning. Please remember to bring any library books to return or renew tomorrow.

Scholastic Orders Due Friday

Please ensure all Scholastic Orders are returned by Friday.

Unmatched Socks?

Do you have any unmatched socks floating around your house? If so, we can use them as erasers for our mini white boards.  Please send them in any time!

Today’s Agenda Note

Today, all students wrote “Tomorrow I will be respectful and listen to the teacher.” Our class was particularly gregarious today, which often happens after a long weekend! As a result we ended the day with a discussion about the importance of stopping and listening when the teacher is talking. We also discussed the importance of choosing a good spot to work away from friends who may be a distraction. We look forward to a more focused day tomorrow!

Name Art

October 2, 2017 • mrslegassie

Over the past few weeks students have been working on a name art project.
Many have finished the art but there are a few who have not. It came home today to complete. They have until Thursday to return it.

Project requirements:

  • crayon or pencil crayon
  • Each square should be fully coloured.
  • The letters should be in a pattern. For example, Caleb – all Cs are the same, all As are the same etc.

I will try to add a picture to this post tomorrow.

Donations?

September 28, 2017 • mrslegassie

Classroom Items Needed:

If you have any of the following items that you would be willing to donate to our class, we would much appreciate it.

Decks of Cards

Throughout the year we will be playing lots of math games to work on our fact fluency and computation skills. Many of these games require decks of cards. If you have any extra decks of cards and would be willing to donate them to our class Math Tools supply, we would be exceptionally grateful.

Sterilite 3 Drawer Storage Bins

Organization is essential to the efficiency of a classroom. We are still in the process of getting classroom materials set up and ready for students. If you have any of these Sterilite 3 drawer units lying around collecting dust, we will gladly take them off your hands! I am kicking myself for giving away 3 of them when we moved in April!

Picture Books

Our personal classroom library has more than 500 books for students to choose from. The high majority of the books are early chapter books or novels. I would love to build our collection of picture books to ensure that we have enough books at the right level for all students. If you have any previously loved picture books to donate, please send them in any time. We would be grateful for chapter book donations any time as well, but currently have a greater need for picture books.

If you wish to donate any of the above, please shoot me an email and let me know or just send them in with your child. My email address is hlegassie@sd35.bc.ca

And please know we are extremely grateful your willingness to support our classroom in this way.

Orange Shirt Day

September 27, 2017 • mrslegassie

Orange Shirt Day is Friday, September 29th. Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt to honour those who survived Indian Residential Schools and remember those who didn’t. The motto: Every Child Matters is a reminder that every child, regardless of background, is important, and is a commitment that we will all do what we can to ensure students’ self-esteem and well being.

In our class we will be discussing these things in an age appropriate manner, focusing on treating others with kindness and respect even if they are different from us.
